Sassa Status Check

The Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) is a financial assistance allowance that can be paid to South African citizens, refugees, asylum seekers and special permit holders who are between the ages of 18 and 60 years and cannot be supported by any person or body.

The SRD grant is meant for individuals who are unable to support themselves because they have no income, or because their income is insufficient; who do not receive social grants on behalf of herself/ himself; or who are not contributing to or eligible for Unemployment Insurance Fund’s payment.

To check your sassa appeal status for SRD grant, then follow the steps below;

1. Enter the url or click on this link https://srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals/appeal (for appeals starting April 2022 to March 2023) which is the new appeal status form.
2. Or enter or visit the direct link https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/reconsideration (for applications up to March 2022)
3. Enter your ID number and cellphone or mobile number used when submitting your application.
4. Look down and click on the button with the inscription “send pin”.
5. An OTP code will be sent to your phone number , six digits code, enter into the text box provided.
6. Click on submit button.
7. Then check appeal or reconsideration page will show up indicating the months that you were declined.Select your preferred month that you wish to check its status.
8. The status will show below the month which is either be : Pending, Approved or Declined.
9. If it is pending, you have to be patient, if approved most often there is a pay date, otherwise you may have to provide your latest or current bank account or choose post bank so that you can collect your grant from the Merchant Stores.
10. If declined, that’s the end. You cannot appeal again unless you send the case to high court for review.
11. Currently, those who have submitted their reconsideration applications since August 2021 have been approved with pay dates or without pay dates. Some too have already been paid.
12. Already there is a huge backlog of reconsiderations being worked on and SASSA has asked applicants to exercise more patient.

Sassa applicant must note that your sassa appeal status can take up to three months before you get reply.

How to check srd status after appeal?

Once the body responsible for evaluating reconsideration requests has considered your appeal, they will provide you with their decision. You will then be able to check your Sassa reconsideration status via the online system. You can also call our Sassa Call Centre at 0800 601 011.

How do I check my reconsideration status 2022?

If you were an applicant of the R350 grant and submitted an appeal between May 2020 and March 2022, go to srd.sassa.gov.za and look under “Reconsideration status check: May 2020 to March 2022”. You will then be asked to submit your ID number and the cellphone number you used when you applied for the grant (if you did not use your ID number as a username). You can only do this by logging in with an existing password on your Sassa account or create a new account if you do not already have one.

How do I check my status appeal?

Applicants can access their Sassa grant appeal from the Appeals page (https://srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals/appeal) where they will be able to track the progress of their application.

How long does Sassa take to approve appeal?

60-90 days
