The Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) is a financial assistance allowance that can be paid to South African citizens, refugees, asylum seekers and special permit holders who are between the ages of 18 and 60 years and cannot be supported by any person or body.
The SRD grant is meant for individuals who are unable to support themselves because they have no income, or because their income is insufficient; who do not receive social grants on behalf of herself/ himself; or who are not contributing to or eligible for Unemployment Insurance Fund’s payment.
Before Sassa can consider SRD grant application from an applicant, the Sassa applicant must meet the following qualifications as listed below;
- Confirmation that they have read and accepted the clauses in the Declaration and Consent Documents
- Personal Details
- Mobile Number (cell phone number)
- Employment Information and Lifestyle Sustainability Information
- Banking Information
Reconfirm your Sassa SRD Grant application
Existing Sassa applicants must reconfirm their SRD grant applications every 3 months. This is part of the eligibility assessment process that SASSA undertakes to ensure that it pays only grants to those who still need and qualify for payments under the new regulations. Applicants can also update their responses to the screening questionnaire here, at any time, should their circumstances change or to correct errors.

Applications for reconsideration processing for the period May 2020 to March 2022 have all been considered, and no further applications are being accepted.
