The fourth phase of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) will be opening applications to become teaching assistants soon. This is a great opportunity and we hope you can be part of this exciting opportunity!

Plans for the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative in the Basic Education sector are underway, with the goal of providing jobs to South Africa’s youth.

The Third Phase of the Programme for Young Entrepreneurs has already been implemented and now applications for Phase four of the PYEI will open on 26 September 2022 and will close on 16 October 2022.

To apply you will need to register with the SA Youth.mobi website, which is free to use. After registering you may complete your application online. This year, more than 200,000 education and general school assistant jobs will be on offer to become an assistant in French schools.

Applicants for teaching assistant positions must have a minimum of a matric certificate. Currently, there is an emphasis on the recruitment of teachers with tertiary education qualifications, especially in Education.

The Department of Basic Education has stipulated that applicants wishing to apply for positions as general school assistants do not need matric certificates.

  • All South African residents aged between 18 – 34 years old. 
  • Anyone living within 5km of an urban school or within 30km of a rural/farm school.
  • Anyone who did not participate in any of the previous Phases. 

Applicants for this position must be at least eighteen years of age and have finished secondary school. Successful applicants will undergo orientation and online training in December 2022 and the first two weeks of January 2023.

These education and general school assistants will be placed at no-fee paying schools during the period of February to April 2023.

The Department of Basic Education has announced the fourth phase of its initiative. This time, 600 new young entrepreneurs will benefit from a stipend of R4081.44 each month. The application process is open to candidates who have never been registered with the Department and had their businesses supported by it in previous phases.

Please be aware that applicants should expect to start the interviewing process towards the end of November and the beginning of the first week of December 2022. We will be sending out invitations as soon as possible after this date.
