CS50: Introduction to Computer Science | Harvard University

Harvard University is one of the most prestigious institutions in the world, and like any other school, it’s not cheap. But thanks to the Internet, you can get a taste of Harvard’s renowned educational offerings without shelling out thousands of dollars in tuition fees.

Harvard University offers its CS50 classes and professional certificates through edX, an e-learning platform co-founded by Harvard. The platform features over 500 free courses from more than 70 universities, including Stanford University and MIT.

CS50 classes are beginner computer science courses, with the introductory CS50 course being the largest one on Harvard’s campus. Its popularity is reflected online as well: Since being adapted into a free virtual version, nearly three million people have enrolled, making it one of the top 100 edX courses of all time.

When Harvard University’s CS50 class launched in 2014, it was a big deal. The class — which is offered both on campus and online as a free MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) — is intended for students with no prior experience in computer science.

It’s also one of the most popular MOOCs ever, with nearly three million people having enrolled since its launch. And now, Harvard is offering professional certificates in data science and cybersecurity through edX.
