Your SAT test date is one that you can’t stop thinking about until it’s finally here. However, life gets in the way for a variety of reasons and students might need to change their SAT test date—However, some students might need to change their SAT test dates — but don’t worry, we’re here to guide you through the entire process.

Some Reasons to Change SAT Test Date 

Not Prepared – Students who are planning to take the SAT, but know that they haven’t practiced enough, have the option to reschedule. However, students should think carefully about their decision to reschedule if they are feeling unprepared and consider all factors. Some highly competitive schools will mandate that students send in every single one of their test scores. If a student has their heart set on a school with that policy and knows that they will not be able to perform to the fullest of their ability on test day, rescheduling for next month can be a smart decision.

Schedule Conflict – Not all scheduling conflicts will require you to reschedule your SAT test date. In most cases, it’s as simple as avoiding conflicts and double-checking your calendar before selecting a test date. The College Board can provide alternate test dates for specific school-related conflicts. However, there are no alternate test dates available in Fall 2021.

SAT Reschedule Fees

If you need to change the date or location of your college entrance exam, the website has a step-by-step process for doing so. Just click “reschedule my test” when logging in to your account. Changes that occur after registration dates will cost $28, which is in addition to the money students pay when initially registering for the exam. This fee will also apply to those who received fee waivers for SAT registration.

SAT Cancellation Fee

The SAT cancellation fee is expensive and you need to call at least 5 days before the SAT test date to receive a refund of $10. It does not matter whether you have booked a slot for just SAT test or SAT with Essay, you will only receive a partial refund.

How To Reschedule Your SAT Test Dates

It can be tricky to reschedule your SAT date, but it won’t take more than a few minutes to complete. Reschedule your SAT test date by visiting the College Board website. The steps are the same for both the standard SAT and the SAT Subject Tests.

  1. Sign-in to College Board
  2. On the “My SAT” page, click “Change Registration” 
  3. At the bottom of the page, click “Change my test date”
  4. Look through the new test dates that are available for upcoming SATs, and select one 
  5. Select a test center
  6. Confirm personal information
  7. Pay the reschedule fee
  8. Check email for confirmation of the change, and a new test date admissions ticket
  9. Print out admissions ticket
