Latest News about Sassa Grants: Sassa Scraps SRD Grant Confirmation For Applicants

Sassa news today 2022: Another change has been implemented in the revamping of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, disbursed by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). Here is what you need to know.

The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant (also referred to as the R350 grant) has been a support system for millions of South Africans.

In August, Sassa announced that the grant would undergo a few changes, therefore affecting how it operates as well as how it impacts its beneficiaries.

Of the changed regulations, includes the rule that beneficiaries should indicate (by answering questions) whether they still qualify for the grant and/or are still in need of it.

This rule no longer exists due to the amended regulations.

Previously, a beneficiary would have to reconfirm their grant status (whether they still qualify or not) at least once every three months, as well as indicate whether they still need the grant; but now, Sassa says this is no longer necessary.

“Due to amended regulations clients do not need to resubmit responses to screening questions,” reads Sassa’s announcement.

The above-mentioned changes would allow more people to gain approval, as amendments were also made to the qualifying barrier.

The Special Covid-19 SRD grant was first introduced in April 2020 as a government intervention to combat the loss of household income that occurred as a result of unemployment caused by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the country’s economy.

Sassa has also encouraged those whose applications were rejected or declined to submit an appeal, if they believe they do qualify.
