The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has announced that it will start distributing social grants on the second day of each month. The Sassa SRD R350 Grant is designed to provide dignity and a social safety net for millions of South Africans who rely on it. This grant is what keeps some of our poorest citizens out of a life-threatening cycle of poverty.

This means beneficiaries will receive their grants earlier each month. Beneficiaries can expect to receive their grant payments on Wednesday, July 3, instead of Friday, July 5.

According to Sassa, this was done to avoid long queues at the agency’s offices during peak times.

“To avoid long queues at our offices during peak times, Sassa will start distributing social grants on the second day of each month,” said Sassa spokesperson Thokozani Magwaza in a statement. “For example, if your grant is due on Monday, July 1, you will receive it on Wednesday, July 3.”

Payment dates for July 2022:

• Monday 4 July 2022: Older Persons Grant 
• Tuesday 5 July 2022: Disability Grant  
• Wednesday 6 July 2022: Children’s Grant
