If you’re like me, you’ve been impatiently waiting for the 2023 NSFAS application to open. So when is it opening? Here is everything you need to know about applying for NSFAS.

NSFAS is an application with a lot of waiting. The official announcement for NSFAS applications opening dates for 2023 has not been released yet, but we think it’s likely to open on the 2nd of November, 2022 and close on the 21st of January, 2023.

If you wish to apply, you can apply online via the NSFAS website. Please be aware that the above-mentioned November and January dates are liable to change; confirmation can only be announced by NSFAS on their website or on their various social media platforms.

NSFAS is a government-funded initiative aimed at assisting the disadvantaged and less fortunate students who want to continue their studies.

The NSFAS application process is open to all South Africans who meet the stipulated requirements/criteria. To apply, you will need to first create a myNSFAS account

If your household income is under R350 000 per year, you can qualify for NSFAS. This is because NSFAS only looks at your household income, not your individual income.

Other requirements include:

  1. You must have your own cellphone number and email address.
  2. You must have a copy of your ID or birth certificate, as well as copies of your parent’s/guardian’s/spouse’s IDs.
  3. You must provide proof of income (yours or your parent’s/guardian’s/spouse’s) or 1 year’s IRPF (if applicable).
  4. All applicants with a disability have to complete and submit a Disability Annexure A form.
  5. All applicants that are recognized as a Vulnerable Child by the Department of Social Development have to provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent form.
