The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) received over 12 million online applications for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant in August 2022. But according to reports, not all applications received by the agency were approved for payment. The importance of the Social Relief of Distress grant can’t be overlooked, as more than 7 million South Africans depend on the social grant for daily survival every month.

The good news is that SRD grant applicants have the chance to re-apply or appeal the decision by Sassa to reject their SRD grant applications. They do so by submitting what Sassa calls an “SRD grant reconsideration request.”

The body responsible for evaluating reconsideration requests will provide you with their decision after they have considered your appeal.

After this, you will then be able to check your Sassa reconsideration status.

Here’s How To Check Your Sassa Reconsideration Status

You can also call the Sassa Call Centre at 0800 601 011.

Click here to lodge an appeal or check the appeal status https://srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals/appeal. The Independent Tribunal will inform you of the outcome of your appeal electronically, within a period of 60 – 90 days from the lodging of the appeal.
