Some SRD SASSA applicants may have experienced delays in verifying their bank details. SASSA is now providing insight into how long this process takes and the steps being taken. One step in validating an SRD grant application is bank validation. Some applicants have complained that this process seems to take a long time, and SASSA has responded.

One applicant expressed frustration with SASSA on social media, saying the bank’s review process took a week to notify SASSA, “Do you not grasp the sense of urgency? Why are we not made a priority? Seeing as how you put the cart before the horse?”.

SASSA responded

The process of bank verification does not have a set timeframe.

This process works so that the applicant’s details are sent to the Treasury Department and the bank of the applicant’s choice.

Once the details have been confirmed, they will be returned to the Ministry of Finance and handed over to SASSA for payment.

If you see the message “Bank Details Pending” when you check your SASSA R350 grant status, it means your application or reapplication has been received. However, you have not provided any banking details or preferences on how you would like to pay your R350 grant.

What then?

All you need to do is submit your banking details using the SASSA SRD website. Here’s how:

  1. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za
  2. Submit your ID Number.
  3. An SMS containing a secure link will be sent to the mobile phone number with which you registered during the application.
  4. Click on the link in the SMS and follow the instructions carefully.

SASSA has repeatedly stated that the R350 grant has no fixed payment date and beneficiaries will be paid in the months in which they are eligible.
