SASSA Grant Payment Dates For January 2023

Sassa is aware that many of our beneficiaries will be affected by the public holidays observed in January 2023. We are currently taking all necessary steps to ensure that the grant payments are correctly made on the first Monday of February. Here are the dates for Sassa grant payment for January 2023.

The South African Social Security Agency is an agency that distributes millions in grants every month. They strive to give back to the community, and according to a Department of Social Development report 31% of South African populations rely on social grants for survival.

Sassa is responsible for administering a variety of grants to qualifying citizens, including the Child Support Grant, the Old Age Pension, and the Disability Grant. It is responsible for implementing a national system for paying social grants to all qualifying citizens.

Sassa has confirmed

that the grant payment dates for January 2023 are as follows:

  • Older Person’s Grants: 03 January 2023
  • Disability Grants: 04 January 2023
  • All Other Grants: 05 January 2023

This is a public holiday and due to the first day of the new year falling on a Sunday, the public holiday will be observed on Monday 2 January 2023.

Therefore, Sassa will only commence with grant payments on Tuesday 3 January 2023.

The Sassa beneficiary can choose to collect their grant through three methods. This includes the CashSend option, which is a direct transfer of your grant into your bank account, or by using your Sassa card at any retailer.

Sassa beneficiaries can shop at any of the five retail stores without paying for their groceries. These retail stores include, Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Boxer, Checkers, USave and OK.

“There is no need rush to withdraw cash on the first day. Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until it is needed,” says Sassa.

The Social Entitlement System Administrators (Sassa) have advised beneficiaries to wait a few days to collect their monthly social grant as it will ensure that they miss the long queues outside of banks and retail stores.
