Ways to view activity on your Fortnite account

Fortnite is one of the biggest games in the world, with a massively popular battle royale game mode. But now it’s also becoming a target for hackers who want to exploit any system’s weaknesses, according to security researchers. A growing number of players are reporting compromised accounts on the game’s subreddit, in fact. Fraudulent card charges, sometimes totaling hundreds of dollars on the same day or even several hundred dollars over the course of a year, seem to be a relatively common complaint among those who find themselves with hacked accounts.

In this article, you’ll learn how to prevent someone else logged into your Epic Games account.

“Your Epic Games account has been locked due to multiple invalid login attempts,” the launcher will tell you when someone else is trying to get in. That means someone else is trying very hard to get in, and now no one has access. It’s a frustrating situation.

Some players have reported that hackers have been able to access their Epic Games accounts and steal their V-Bucks. It’s unclear whether the hackers are taking advantage of a unique flaw in Fortnite, or if they’re using standard phishing techniques and exploiting bad password practices on the part of the players.

“We are aware of instances where users’ accounts have been compromised using well-known hacking techniques and are working to resolve these issues directly with those players affected,” the company told Polygon via email. “Any players who believe their account has been compromised should reach out to our player support immediately.”

Samsung smartphones have been designed to make sure the game stays safe and secure. But, of course, security is your responsibility too. Before you install the game, follow these tips to keep your account safe from hackers.

There is only one safe place to get Fortnite

Fortnite is by far one of the most popular games at the moment, with Epic Games being largely responsible for this success. You can easily find dozens of places where you can download Fortnite on your desktop computer after a quick search through our search engine, but not all of them are true.

If you’re downloading the launcher through Epic Games’ site, you should be fine. But we strongly recommend against downloading the file elsewhere, or via a third-party download service.

Check the account security bulletin

If you play Fortnite, you need to take this seriously. The world’s most popular game is about to become even more popular, and competition for your account name could get fierce. There are ways to protect your accounts from becoming casualties of a data collection campaign like the one that Epic Games foiled recently, but it takes work and persistence.

Make a unique password for the game

Fortnite players should use strong passwords for their accounts, as well as for any other services they may have an account with. It’s important to protect yourself from hackers who use the same password and email for multiple online accounts in order to gain access — so make sure you’re not re-using any passwords from any of your other online accounts.

Epic has even stated that they’re spending time trying to match Fortnite passwords with existing hacks to keep players safe.

“At Epic, we’ve been working hard to try to hunt down password dumps in order to proactively reset passwords for player accounts when we believe they are leaked online,” the account security bulletin states. “While this approach involves a lot of manual work on our side, we believe that it prevents a significant amount of fraud.”

Set up two-factor sign-in

A 15% damage increase to all adventure skills? Sign me up. This is a relatively new setting for the game and it’s one everyone should take advantage of.

“To opt into Two-Factor Sign In, go to your Account Settings and click on the Password & Security tab,” Epic says. “Scroll to the bottom and click the Enable Two-Factor Sign In button. That’s it! Please note that your email must be verified before you can enable this feature.”

Checking your email is a thing of the past. Once you enable this feature, Epic will send you an email that contains a one-time use code. Once you enter the code and log in, you’ll be prompted to save it for future logins and never again have to find that email again!

“You will be prompted for the two-factor sign in code the first time you login after enabling the feature if you use a new device, clear browser cookies, or it’s been over 30 days since you last signed in,” the official page explains.

Pay attention to your Fortnite transactions

Congratulations, it looks like someone has your account information! Are you seeing charges on your credit card statement that you don’t remember making? Are you getting confirmation emails from Epic about transactions you weren’t aware of?

To help protect yourself from hackers, you can limit the amount of damage by creating a support ticket with Epic and contacting your bank as soon as you see a fraudulent charge. Take action immediately if fishy charges begin to show up.
