What is Sassa ?

The Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) is administered in terms of section 32 of the Social Assistance Act, 2004 (Act No. 13 of 2004) and is implemented with the concurrence of the Minister of Finance.

The Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) is meant for South African Citizens, Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Special Permit Holders who are between the ages of 18 and 60 years, who have insufficient means, who do not receive social grants on behalf of herself/ himself or who are not contributing to or eligible for UIF payment, and have no financial support from any other source.

In order to access your SRD grant application, you will need to provide consent to the verification of your identity, residency, income or social security benefits. The declaration and consent form sets out how Sassa will process the information obtained and what happens if you withdraw your consent.

Who’s eligible for the R350 Grant

An applicant must meet the listed criteria before he/she is eligible to apply for an SRD R350 grant

  • Only for South African Citizens, Refugees, Asylum Seekers, and Special Permit Holders
  • Must be between the ages of 18 and 60 years
  • Only for those who have insufficient means, do not receiving receive social grants on behalf of herself/ himself, or are not contributing to or eligible for UIF payment
  • Those who have no financial support from any other source

How long does the SRD R350 grant appeal take?

The COVID-19 SRD R350 Grant has a 90-day appeal period. This means that anyone with a denied or failed sassastatus can appeal for up to 90 days.

How to apply for the Sassa SRD grant online

  1. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za
  2. Scroll to the ‘How do I apply for this SRD Grant’ section
  3. Click on the yellow bar which says ‘click here to apply online’
  4. Enter your mobile number
  5. Click “send sms” 
  6. Then enter the one time pin that Sassa has sent to the number 
  7. Continue the application process by filling in the steps required by Sassa

How to apply for the SRD Sassa grant on WhatsApp

  1. Add 082 046 8553 as a contact on your phone
  2. Go on WhatsApp and send a message saying ‘hi’ to this number
  3. You will then receive a response and you should then respond saying ‘help’
  4. You will be given various options, reply saying ‘4’
  5. This will lead you to the Unathi Sassa platform message which you should reply ‘SRD’ to
  6. You then have to confirm whether you’re applying for yourself or someone else
  7. Now the actual application begins and you’ll have to submit your name, surname and ID number in the message. 
  8. You will then receive a message on Whatsapp stating the next steps.

Sassa payment for April 2022:

  • Older Person’s Grants will be paid from 04 April 2022
  • ▪︎Disability Grants will be paid from 05 April 2022
  • ▪︎All other grants will be paid from 06 April 2022

Sassa payment for May 2022:

  • Tuesday 3 May: Older Persons Grant
  • Wednesday 4 May: Disability Grant
  • Thursday 5 May: Children’s Grants

Sassa payment for June 2022:

  • Thursday 2 June 2022: Older Persons Grant
  • Friday 3 June 2022: Disability Grant
  • Monday 6 June 2022: Children’s Grants

Sassa SRD Reapplication Pending R350 Grant Status

After submitting your Sassa R350 grant application, you might want to do a Sassa status check. But you might find that your Sassa SRD status is ‘reapplication pending’, so it is very important to check. Here’s what you can do about that Sassa status for your R350 SRD Grant.

  • Go to srd.sassa.gov.za to apply online
  • Enter your mobile number
  • Click “Send SMS”
  • Then enter the one time pin (OTP) that Sassa has sent to the number for the status check
  • Continue the application process by filling in the steps required

Once you have done the Sassa status check you will then want to have your Sassa online application considered. This means that you need to grant consent for the agency to check your identity, residency, income or social security benefits. Applicants are urged to accept declaration and consent as well.

Sassa only allows a single application to be submitted per person. Once submitted, Sassa will send confirmation of your application and you can rest assured that it is being processed.

How To Update Your Sassa Online Application 

  1. Go to the Sassa website: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/
  2. Scroll down to “Update your grant application”
  3. Then click on “click here to update your existing application”
  4. Enter your ID number as well as your mobile number 
  5. Click “send sms” 
  6. Once you have signed into your application using a one-time-pin (OTP), follow the instructions to update your details. 

How To Reapply For Sassa R350 Grant

  1. Visit the SASSA website at srd.sassa.gov.za
  2. Click ‘Reconfirm your grant application’
  3. Login in with your South African ID number and Mobile number
  4. Update your details
  5. Resubmit the application

How to submit banking details to sassa

All you need to do is submit your sassa banking details using the SASSA SRD website. Here’s how:

  1. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za
  2. Submit your ID Number.
  3. An SMS containing a secure link will be sent to the mobile phone number with which you registered during application.
  4. Click on the link in the SMS and follow the instructions carefully.

Sassa r350 approved but no payments

Why does Sassa say approved but no payday? “If your application is approved with no pay date it means payment has not been processed as yet,” announced SASSA.
